Twilio has a new contract with Dutch operator KPN to launch RCS Business Messaging in the Netherlands. Announced at Mobile World Congress, the agreement offers new forms of business communication, combining traditional SMS with interactive functions such as verified sender, images and action buttons. KPN's extensive mobile network will provide the platform for businesses to upgrade their communication with customers and partners.

Mediatek is showcasing emergency alert services powered by Starlink's S-band D2D platform at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. Powered by Mediatek's satellite-capable M90 5G modem, the MWC 26 demo aims to encourage wider adoption of satellite delivery of alerts from cellular public safety systems, including the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), and the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS).

GSMA climate action projects reach 73 mln people

The GSMA says in its annual ClimateTech Horizons Report that its climate action projects have now reached 72.7 million people and supported 21.7 million to adapt to climate change. Grant recipients have been awarded GBP 8.6 million, and GBP 54.4 million in follow-on investment has been secured. This shows that mobile-led solutions act as a catalyst for scaling global climate finance, the GSMA said. By January 2026, 48 organisations were being funded in 22 countries.

UK govt announces new satellite communications funding of GBP 30 million

The UK government has announced new funding of GBP 30 million for UK companies developing satellite communications technology. This is the second round of funding from the UK Space Agency's 'Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit' (LEO) programme and will help UK companies develop technologies and components for LEO satellite networks. The funding call opens on 04 March through the UK Space Agency website.

MVNO Lyca Mobile has announced a prize freeze for pay-monthly plans in the UK for 2026. The move is designed to stop mid-contract price increases and hidden contract fees. Prem Sivasamy, Lyca Mobile's Deputy Chairman, said the company was committed to supporting customers struggling with the cost of living, and that Lyca Mobile has never increased prices mid-contract since launching pay-monthly plans in the UK. It offers pay-monthly plans from GBP 3 per month, with unlimited data plans from GBP 9 per month.

Russian VoIP operator and cloud services provider Telphin has added a new option of automated messages when routing calls to its PBX service Telphin.Office. Text messages can be sent to the messengers Max, Telegram or WhatsApp, as well as over SMS, directly from the IVR menu. The new option is expected to speed up sending information to customers and staff.

Free Mobile offers temporary support for customers in UAE, Oman and Qatar

French operator Free Mobile has introduced two temporary measures to support customers affected by the conflict in the Middle East. As reported by Clubic, Free Mobile's rates for calls dialled from the UAE, Oman and Qatar have been lowered to EUR 0.22 per minute until the end of March. Additionally, customers in these three countries have been gifted 15 GB of roaming data during the current month. Both measures apply automatically across all the operator's mobile plans.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced that further prepay customers will be subject to a price increase of EUR 1.99 (including VAT) applied to their plans starting on 09 April.
